Baby on a Budget

Being a new mom, I was so overwhelmed with how many baby products there are on the market. I spent a lot of time during my pregnancy reading reviews on products and checking other “mom blogs” to see which were the best or most used products before making any purchases.

Here is a compilation of the Top 10 Baby Products that I used or still use that made life much easier:-

1.       Baby Car seat and Stroller combo – We purchased the “Click Connect Travel System” by Graco.  The car seat is very light weight and clicks on to the stroller easily to accommodate a new born baby until he’s about 35lbs.

 2.       Nursery Center – We got the Baby Trend Go – Lite ELX Nursery Center because it came with a bassinet that we kept close to the bed with the new-born baby, there is also a flip away changing pad that I rarely used but it was a plus in-case I needed to change the baby while he was in the nursery centre. It also had a sound and vibration speaker system with a night light.

 3.       Baby Monitor – My mom didn’t think this was important because it’s a “full house.” Trust me, it’s very important to have a monitor in the room that you’re in and keep the other where the baby sleeps. Sometimes you don’t hear the baby and need the help of a monitor. There is a wide variety. We got one as a gift at the gender reveal from Safety 1st that we use more than the one Joel purchased with the camera from Motorola.  Simply because the one from Safety 1st was to plug in and use while the other had to have batteries. They are both great.

 4.       Bath Tub – This isn’t a fussy purchase for most people but I still wanted my baby boy to enjoy his bath in comfort so I got the “Easy Store Comfort Tub” from Summer Infant. It was available at Excellent Stores and it’s perfect for storage. I love it. But my first option was The Aquarium Bath Tub from Fisher Price.

 5.       Safety First Nursery Kit – This is important. Get one! Along with the Little Remedies Kit or just the gripe water would do for now. The colic is real and it works. (Your welcome)

 6.       Nursing Pillow – This is not absolutely necessary but it’s helpful because it’s comfortable for the baby to nurse on a pillow and allows you to use your hands. There is also a little pocket for the bottle and it supports your back. Back support is very important while breastfeeding. Sometimes, we take this for granted and slouch. Be mindful of your comfort as well as the baby’s while breastfeeding. If you are interested, I got “My Brest Pillow.”

 7.       Baby Bottles – I took a while to decide on what bottles to use. The top three were Avent, Tommee Tippee and Dr. Brown. I decided to go with the Tommee Tippee as a starter because of the “closer to nature” design. Eventually, at about 3 months I used Avent bottles as well because my son didn’t want to take the formula. He preferred the breast milk. But both worked well for us. I got the Tommee Tippee Starter Set which was a great buy.

 8.       Pumping Kit – For those moms who eventually have to return to work, like myself, a pumping kit is necessary. It’s good to try to pump twice a day to keep a steady milk flow. Try to pump every day at the same time. If this is impossible because of a hectic schedule, at least get in one pump a day. I got the Medela Manual Pump but this did not work for me. The electrical is better for the speed. Every mom is different; some even pump on their own manually.

9.       Drying Racks – These are important to store bottles to dry after washing them, before storing them. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004OR1DTC/ref=pd_luc_rh_sim_01_01_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

 10.   Swaddle Blankets – These are so important. Babies love to be swaddled. However, I received a lot of those thick, but really soft blankets. Those are nice. I use them to spread in the nursery center but I still put one of the light weight, cotton, swaddle blankets on top of it so the baby doesn't feel to warm. I basically just use the other really thick ones for that “cushiony” effect. The ones I prefer are the lightweight, jersey material ones from carters. It’s perfect for our climate; it keeps the baby warm but not too hot. The size is great! I love it.

Hope this helped! Feel free to message me about other baby items that I use such as clothing, feeding and pampering. Xoxo.
